Secondary Stage

A World Class School Offering the British Curriculum

Welcome to the Secondary School

The Secondary School covers the ages of 11-16, and is split into two distinct stages, Keys Stage 3 (11-13) and Key Stage 4 (14-16). At this stage of their education, this is where students break away from the majority of their learning being supported by one teacher, to subject specialists delivering the curriculum.

The focus of the Secondary School is aimed at supporting every student, whether they choose a traditional academic route or a more tailored bespoke curriculum.

Whilst we celebrate students attainment, for us the most important feature within the school is a students’ progress, and adding as much value as we can during a students’ time at the school. This works due to our highly trained staff, our inspiring curriculum, our well developed and embedded pastoral team, and the strong home-school partnerships that are formed between the school and parents.

Our whole school ethos of ‘enjoy, aspire, achieve’ underpins the day to day practice within the Secondary School.

At Dubai British School we follow the National Curriculum for England and Wales, whilst also delivering content specific to our locality. All subject teachers are British qualified and work within their specialisms

  • Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Science
  • Humanities: Geography and History
  • Languages: French, Spanish and Arabic
  • Social Sciences: Psychology, Business and Economics
  • Expressive Arts: Drama, Music, Media Studies and Art
  • Physical Education: Recreational PE and Exam PE

Higher Education & Careers Guidance

We offer accurate and relevant careers guidance presented in an impartial manner throughout our pupils’ and students’ educational journey. This guidance is intended to empower our pupils to make informed choices regarding a broad spectrum of career paths and to inspire them to realise their potential.

Preparation for Life in British Society

Throughout our curriculum, we endeavour to prepare our pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences that await them in international life and in British society, equipping them with the requisite knowledge, skills, and values necessary for active participation and contribution.

Assessment & Progress Monitoring

We have several systems (Pupil Progress, O-Track, Sisra Analytics) in place to evaluate pupil and student performance and provide effective trend data and feedback which allows students to lead their learning. This data internally analysed to inform teaching it is reported regularly to parents to ensure effective school-learner-parent partnership.

Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education (PSHE)

Our PSHE curriculum is a reflection of the school’s overarching aims and ethos, promoting and encouraging respect for others and fostering an understanding of diversity and celebrating difference among individuals.
Our approach to relationships and sex education follows the UK model whilst satisfying KHDA requirements. Arrangements are made to ensure that where a pupil’s parent requests that the pupil is wholly or partly excused from sex education provided as part of relationships and sex education, the pupil is excused until the request is withdrawn.
