Anjana Mehra

Upon completing my teacher training in Belfast, I moved to England and gained much experience teaching across Key Stage 2 and developing my professional interests, which led to me taking on many different opportunities within leadership. I finally made the exciting move to Dubai in 2016, where I added to my experience by working across a range of outstanding schools. Teaching in Dubai has been a wonderful experience to date; it has been really interesting to have such a diverse and wide range of cultures to find out about and to celebrate within one classroom. I am incredibly passionate about providing children with memorable learning experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom; finding opportunities to bring their learning to life and understand the purpose for what they are learning about. I believe that a positive, supportive and stimulating learning environment is crucial for all children to become confident and resilient learners who can achieve their highest potential, both academically and emotionally. I can quite often be found singing in lessons, although many of my pupils have debated my ability in this area! I joined the DBSEH in 2020 and was soon made to feel at home thanks to the warm, friendly community atmosphere that is particularly evident at this school.

Through my positive experiences at school and a deep love of learning, becoming a teacher was always something I aspired to do. Being in the classroom environment is my favourite place to be; I love the inquisitive buzz from the children and there is certainly never a dull moment! In 2012, I began studying Education at Leeds Beckett University, then my PGCE through Oxford Brooks University, and had the opportunity to work across all key stages which has equipped me with a wealth of knowledge. It was at University I met and lived with some friends who had grown up in Dubai, and it sounded such an amazing place – I had to see it for myself! So, after gaining 4 years of teaching experience in the UK, I decided to make the move and it was the best decision I have made! I started at DBS in 2019 and joined the lovely Primary Team. The staff, children, parents, and everyone in the DBS community has been so welcoming and nurturing and I am excited to continue my DBS journey! Best Teaching Moment: My best teaching moment would be hard to narrow down to just 1! I would most certainly have say going on residential with the children is my favourite! Seeing them outside a classroom environment and building their confidence, life-skills, really pushing themselves and being so adventurous is so humbling, and they are moments I, and the children will always remember!
