Kerryanne Cartwright

I am the Faculty Head of the very busy PE department at DBS. In our department we aim to foster a sense of enjoyment from sport, whilst providing our students with the skills that will enable them to participate in physical activities throughout their lives. I began teaching here in 2008 and have enjoyed every minute. It has been an absolute joy to watch the progress of all the students in our school, especially those who I have had the pleasure to teach from FS all the way up through secondary. I am heavily involved with the extra-curricular activities and I love taking the DBS teams to sports fixtures where I get to witness the skills, talents and competitiveness of our students. I adore the community feel surrounding DBS and its a pleasure getting to integrate with so many families and to see them grow and flourish. Best Moment In Teaching I think one of my funniest moments, was during a swimming lesson when a little boy in FS2 shouted at me from across the pool, mid-width, that he "was not a fish"! It was a challenge trying to explain to him that children can swim too, but I think he finally got the message by Year 6.

Alistair Munro

'Ever since I was a young boy I have been sports crazed, I tried every sport I could and became involved in as many clubs as possible both recreationally and competitively; leading me to become involved in international programmes for both Cricket and Hockey. This naturally led me to an exciting and enjoyable career in PE Teaching, for which I studied at The University of Edinburgh at both undergraduate and post graduate level whilst maintaining my own sporting endeavours.

Nichola Fisher

I joined DBS in 2019, in charge of leading the new skills-based STEAM curriculum. I am extremely passionate about engaging children with discovery-based learning and helping them develop skills for the 21century. I taught Secondary Science for 4 years in Scotland before moving to Dubai and teaching for a further 8 years (5 of which were formerly at Dubai British School). After winning an entrepreneurial award in 2016, I left teaching to set up my first Science-based business, Rock it Science, which focuses on inspiring young children to love the subject and I am definitely known as a ‘Mad Scientist’! This lead me on a new educational journey, where I worked as an educational consultant for many Dubai schools to support their STEAM curriculum, written and delivered teacher training workshops and set up a second business, My Discovery Lab, producing STEAM-based resources with monthly magazines and at-home Science kits for young children. I am a family person and love spending time with my three sons who attend the school. Best Moment In Teaching It must be the satisfaction of seeing ideas come to life in the STEAM lab. Children are so innovative, and it amazes me, given the right opportunities just how much they can achieve

Neil Milton

I joined DBS in 2020 having worked in Egypt for nearly 16 years. I am originally from Scotland, where I studied piano at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. I completed my teaching qualification at Edinburgh University and also have a Masters in Technology and Education from University College London. My favourite pastimes are golf, football and running. I recently completed 3 marathons in 1 year, including an ultra - marathon (56k) in the 2 Oceans event in Capetown.

Vincent Maclean

Born in South Africa, sport and exercise have always played a huge role in my life. From swimming and water polo at school, playing rugby at Stellenbosch University, then moving to England to play for London Scottish, I’m officially crazy about it. I came late to the field of education after a period coaching county level rugby, I qualified as a teacher in 2006 and completed an M(Ed) at St. Mary’s University College, Twickenham. I later moved to Mexico City with my wife to teach and earned a cap for Mexico in Cricket, then spent five years teaching in Abu Dhabi, joining DBS in 2020. I still enjoy all aspects of what sport and activities has to offer and can regularly be found puffing away on a rugby pitch or at CrossFit, swinging a golf club on the greens of Dubai, kitesurfing, swimming, road cycling or hiking. I am a practical, hands-on teacher and prioritize building great relationships with my students, while having them learn to enjoy movement and being healthy. I believe these are the things that will help balance us as we progress on our journey as lifelong learners.

Jack Kennedy

As a child, I always knew that teaching would be the career path I would choose. My mother is a Primary School Principal and my father is an Art Teacher. I saw how enjoyable and rewarding their jobs were and I just knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. I graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2015 with a BA in French and Irish. After this, I continued my studies in Trinity College and completed a Masters in Education. Since then, I have been happily teaching French and also working as part of the inclusion team in my school in Dublin. I am thrilled to be joining DBS and I can’t wait to work as the Primary French Teacher but also get the opportunity to support children in other curricular areas too. Best Moment In Teaching It is hard to choose one particular teaching highlight but I feel it has to be when a student starts to realise their potential and begins to believe that they are capable of anything. This gradual confidence makes a huge difference to their learning and overall attitude to school life. Instilling this self-belief, independence and confidence in students is something that is so important to me as an educator and when I see students break down these barriers these are truly special moments for me.
