Secondary Art, Music & Drama Team

I grew up in Suffolk in the middle of the countryside before moving to London where I spent 6 years completing internships and working in the design industry...before I realised this wasn’t for me! Becoming a teacher was the best career move I could have made. I have found working to inspire young people to engage in the subject I am most passionate about extremely fulfilling. This year will be my second year teaching in Dubai and I am thrilled to be teaching secondary art at DBS. I love creativity on all levels so please come and chat to me about any extra-curricular creative projects you might be working on. In my spare time, I love spending time with my friends, reading, watching documentaries, travelling, going to yoga classes and visiting art galleries and exhibitions.

I joined DBS in 2020 having worked in Egypt for nearly 16 years. I am originally from Scotland, where I studied piano at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. I completed my teaching qualification at Edinburgh University and also have a Masters in Technology and Education from University College London. My favourite pastimes are golf, football and running. I recently completed 3 marathons in 1 year, including an ultra - marathon (56k) in the 2 Oceans event in Capetown.

Originally trained as a Graphic Designer, my transition into teaching began 12 years ago whilst working at a Further Education College in the UK. I completed my teacher training and soon realised how satisfying it was to teach. After spending eight years in Abu Dhabi, I am excited to have joined DBS to teach Art and Graphics to KS3, KS4 and KS5 students. My passion and enthusiasm for the subjects will hopefully inspire students to produce work they can be proud to call their own. Apart from teaching, I have a keen interest in European Medieval history, (particularly the Tudor period) and would love to be involved in a re-enactment at some stage! I also enjoy leaning about diverse cultures and customs – something that I hope to continue through meeting new people at DBS and by taking the time to explore Dubai and beyond.

I am thrilled to join DBSEH as the Secondary Drama teacher and have a true passion for my subject and everything Performing Arts related. I moved to Dubai in 2012 with my husband and have been teaching Drama, Dance and Performing Arts here in the Middle East since then. Before that I was teaching in London, UK within a large Performing Arts department enjoying what being so close to London brings for the Theatre and Performing Arts world. I truly believe that Drama can bring so much to students beyond acting in the theatre. It is a subject where students can applying critical thinking, develop confidence, problem solve, collaborate and many more transferrable skills. Show time is my favourite time as I really do enjoy productions and musicals in particular, where my passion and expertise of Dance, Music and Drama comes together. It is hard work but more than anything so very rewarding. I look forward to working with all of the students at DBSEH and igniting their passion for Drama and more.
